An exercise in emergency communication is coming up this weekend in Coffeyville.
The Coffeyville and Independence Amateur Radio Clubs will participate in Winter Field Day this Saturday. Coffeyville club president Jacob McCallie says emergencies don't always come during nice weather, and this event helps local operators test their gear in different conditions from ARRL field day, which is held in June.
McCallie says this year, there's an opportunity for the public to win a prize by attending.
Winter Field Day will take place at the Oakcrest lodge at Pfister Park in Coffeyville across from the Aviation Heritage Museum. Setup will start at 10 a.m. and the event kicks off at 1 p.m. Club members plan to operate into the evening hours on Saturday.
Other local clubs will be setting up as well for Winter Field Day, including the Bartlesville club at Osage Hills State Park and the Pittsburg Club at the Crawford County Historical Museum. A link to find a local club activation where you live is available HERE.
