An Independence man is being honored for his volunteer work with Scouting America.
Bill Carson has been named as a recipient of the 2024 Silver Beaver Award from Scouting America through the Quivira Council located in Wichita. The Silver Beaver Award is presented to adult volunteers who have provided distinguished service and leadership in the organization. Carson has served as a leader with Boy Scout Troop 4 and Cub Scout Pack 4 in Independence for more than a decade and has also served as a shooting sports instructor for scouts in southeast Kansas.
The Silver Beaver Award was first introduced in 1931 and has since been awarded to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service.
Carson will be presented with his award on February 8th at the 2025 Quivira Council Annual Recognition Banquet in Wichita.
