Two counties in Southwest Missouri are in the top five in the Show-Me State for driver and pedestrian fatal crashes.
Personal injury attorneys Foster Wallace took data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on the number of drivers and pedestrians involved in fatal crashes in Missouri counties between 2018 and 2022.
McDonald County ranks third on the list of most dangerous Missouri counties for drivers. In the time frame, the county saw 25.43 drivers involved in fatal crashes per 10,000 people. Barry County was fourth on the list 22.89 drivers involved in fatal crashes per 10,000 people.
To avoid the risk of fatal crashes, plan your trip in advance and leave plenty of time to eliminate last-minute rushing. Check weather and driving conditions before you leave and make sure your vehicle is in roadworthy condition, in particular, check the brakes are working properly, and follow basic driving safety rules - no texting or other distractions, obey speed limits, and ensure you’re well rested.
