OK State Lawmaker Calls on Legislature to Address Issues in Jails

An Oklahoma State Representative is calling for the Legislature to get involved in health and safety issues in Oklahoma's jails.

Oklahoma City Democrat Jason Lowe has called a recent report on conditions in the Oklahoma County Jail deeply disturbing. The facility failed more than six surprise health inspections since 2021. Many of those inspections were failed simply because jail administrators would not allow investigators to enter the facility. Lowe says this is an issue that should alarm all Oklahomans.

The CEO of the Oklahoma County facility Brandi Garner resigned last week. Garner stated in her resignation letter that her decision was not related to the recent health and safety report.
