Man Convicted in Beating Death of Homeless Man in Wichita Sentenced to Prison

A man convicted in the 2022 death of 30-year-old Blake Barnes is sentenced to nearly 25 years in prison.

A judge in a Wichita courtroom handed down the sentence for 34-year-old Abel Molina this week. Molina was convicted of second-degree murder in a jury trial in September. In February 2022, police discovered Barnes, beaten and lying on a bridge on North Seneca Street. Barnes was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries. Molina was also sentenced to 36 months of post-release supervision and ordered to pay nearly $5,000 in restitution to the Kansas Crime Compensation Board.

Another man charged in the case, David Chandler, was also convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 214 months in prison.
