A Georgia man is in custody following a standoff at a Winfield motel.
Winfield Police were called to the Econo Lodge yesterday afternoon for a report of a battery on a motel employee. The suspect, 48-year-old Michael Parham of Pine Mountain, Georgia, fled to his room when authorities arrived on the scene. He then refused to come out while also refusing to speak with police. At one point, Parham pulled back the curtain in his room and brandished a knife.
Winfield Police then requested the assistance of a regional SWAT team. Members of that team finally persuaded Parham to exit his room. He was taken into custody without further incident and was take to the Cowley County Jail.
