Members of the Parsons Police Department along with representatives of other area law enforcement agencies attend an Advanced Domestic Violence Training seminar.
The purpose of the seminar was to train officers in evaluating the lethality risk that a victim of domestic violence may face and help them to be better equipped to provide support to victims and survivors of this type of crime. The training can also be used by prosecutors and judges in evaluating misdemeanor and felony domestic violence cases.
The training was provided by the Kansas Attorney General's Office and the Olathe Police Department and was made possible by the recent grant received by P-P-D to create the Domestic Violence Unit.
Police Chief Robert Spinks stated that the grant has helped officers with enforcement of domestic violence laws and with education and victim support. The grant will fund the D-V-U through the end of 2025. Spinks has asked the Parsons City Commission to approve a ½ cent Public Safety Sales Tax to continue to fund the program.
