The USD 447 Cherryvale-Thayer School Board holds its first meeting of the new year.

 

One of the first orders of business at last night's meeting was to elect a Board President and Vice-President. By a unanimous vote, Mark Torkelson and Kevin Crain were selected as President and Vice-President for a second year.

 

Superintendent Travis Githens informed Board members that the school was still moving through the accreditation process. Githens says the district is focusing on two main goals.

 

Githens adds that their work on their work will be peer-reviewed this spring.

 

Githens also thanked District Director of Maintenance Marvin Hestand for the superior efforts of his crews to maintain the school buildings and grounds during the recent inclement weather.

 

Githens also updated the board on the district's cybersecurity, citing the recent data breach of PowerSchool. USD 447 uses Infinite Campus and was not affected by the breach, but the breach did make the issue one of concern.
