An Independence High School teacher has been nominated by the district for the Kansas Teacher of the Year award.
Rene Stanley has been with USD 446 for 18 years, and teaches classes such as AP Language and British Literature. Stanley also oversees the IHS Yearbook staff, which received Walsworth awards for excellence for the 2024 publication.
IHS Principal Kurt Seiler says Stanley is involved in many ways with the school.
Stanley is the second district instructor to be nominated, joining Amy Bloomfield, who was the elementary school nominee in December.
Additional items of business at the January board meeting was a public appreciation for the board during School Board Appreciation Month, as well as an update regarding a heater malfunction in the Community Room of IHS, which is expected to be fixed this week.
The board will next meet on February 10th at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the High School.
