The Kansas State Senate is ready to get back to doing the work of the people.
The State Legislature begins its new session today in Topeka. State Senator Virgil Peck says the session opens today at 2pm.
Peck says Medicaid expansion will likely be back on the agenda as well as marijuana legalization. Peck thinks neither of those issues are likely to get far in the Republican-majority legislature. However, he adds there is one issue that will definitely receive the attention of lawmakers: Property taxes.
A joint session of the legislature will hear a State of the Military address on Wednesday, followed by a State of the Judiciary. Governor Laura Kelly will also deliver her State of the State address on Wednesday evening.
