The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Community Celebration is coming up this weekend in Independence.
Activities begin at 2pm on Sunday with a free soup luncheon in the Community Room at Independence High School. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods to donate to the Independence Food Pantry. The MLK Jr program will follow the luncheon at 3pm. Independence Chamber President Lisa Wilson says there will be a variety of interesting speakers and musical performances as well.
The celebration is sponsored by the Independence Chamber of Commerce Diversity Task Force, the Kansas Volunteer Commission, and RSVP Four County. The celebration takes place in the Performing Arts Center at Independence High School.
