A data breach at PowerSchool, a student information system provider, could affect millions of K through 12 students nationwide, including some in southeast Kansas.
USD 484-Fredonia notified district parents Thursday that the data breach included information from the Fredonia school district. Though PowerSchool says the breach has been contained, some of the data involved included personal information about Fredonia students and employees. Information that was possible accessed included names, addresses, and phone numbers. USD 484 Superintendent Brian Smith stated in the letter that no sensitive information such as social security numbers was involved in the breach.
PowerSchool first identified the breach on December 28 and is now taking steps to protect information stored on its system. No additional suspicious activity has been detected since December 28.
