The Independence City Commission braved the snowy weather to hold their first meeting of 2025 Thursday night.

One of the first orders of business for the commission was to reorganize for the new year. Mayor Tim Emert makes the motions for the appointment of the new mayor and vice-mayor.

In other business, commissioners voted to condemn six of the seven properties deemed dangerous and unsafe with one of those properties going to the Independence Land Bank. The owners of the seventh property will return to the commission in June to show their renovation efforts.
