Progress continues on a new medical facility in Fort Scott.

The Freeman Healthcare system is working to secure licensing for a proposed 10-bed general medical unit and a 24-hour emergency department to be called Freeman Fort Scott Hospital. The new facility would be housed in the location of the old Fort Scott Hospital which closed in December 2023.

Freeman says the required renovations and the design phase for the new facility have been completed. Plans have been submitted to the state and hospital officials are currently awaiting their approval.
