This week's winter storm caused road closures and shutdowns across the state including here in southeast Kansas.
Though the weather wasn't as bad as in other parts of the state, the icy roads and frigid temperatures made for hazardous driving conditions. Roads crews across the area were out on the city and county streets, working to keep roads clear. At this week's Parsons City Commission meeting, Commissioner Kevin Cruse says the crews in Parsons were out and about making the roads safe for citizens.
City Manager Debbie Lamb says city road crews were very proactive in pre-treating Parsons streets before the storm hit.
In other business, the commission selected Verlyn Boulanger as Mayor and Kevin Cruse as President of the Board, while Police Chief Robert Spinks gave a report on 2024 activities by the Parsons Police Department. Debbie Lamb also announced that city hall will be closed on Thursday for the National Day of Mourning in honor of former President Carter. The next commission meeting will be on Tuesday, January 21, due to the Martin Luther King, Jr Day holiday.
