Kansas Lineman Rescues Bobcat and Kitten From Utility Pole

Kansas Linemen have been busy over the past few days trying to keep the lights on for Kansans during the recent winter storm.

However, one lineman near the City of Norton was presented with an unusual problem on Sunday afternoon. While working to restore power, Dominic Urban discovered two Bobcats sitting on top of a power pole. The problem? The cats were stuck. Literally.

Urban says he was unable to dislodge the mother and her kitten from the pole because the mother cat was frozen to the pole. Temperatures in the Norton area on Sunday topped out at a high of 16 degrees with a sub-zero wind chill.

Urban thought quickly and crafted a crude snare from a piece of pipe and some rope. He says he was able to use that to secure the cats while he chipped away the ice surrounding the pair. He was then able to safely lower both cats to the ground, where they both fled into some nearby trees.

Power from the pole had to be averted before the cats could be rescued to avoid injuring the animals. The rescue operation took about two hours.
