Icy conditions in western Kansas on Saturday night lead to a fatal accident near Dodge City.
The accident occurred around 6:15 Saturday night when a semi-truck driven by 58-year-old Tirso Staray-Parra of Las Vegas, Nevada, started to swerve as it traveled along US-56. The driver attempted to bring the truck under control but was unable to do so and the tractor-trailer then jack-knifed. At that time, the trailer was struck by a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Bernabe Rincon of Dodge City. Rincon was taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City, where he later died from his injuries.
A passenger in Rincon’s vehicle – 27-year-old Angel Ramirez – was also taken to St. Catherine’s with serious injuries.
The driver of the semi was uninjured.
