Kansas Police Departments are warning of a phone scam circulating in the area.
Derby Police say they have gotten numerous complaints about a phone scam in which the caller tells the recipient that they have missed an appearance for federal jury duty and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The caller then wants the victim to make a bond payment over the phone.
Derby police say that is someone pressures you to stay on the phone until a payment is made, that is a huge red flag. Officials advise the public to ask questions and verify information. Do not send money through a payment app and do not share credit card information or gift card information for the purpose of paying a bond.
If you receive a call like this, police say you should hang up and call your local police department.
While police do sometimes call people who have active warrants, it is a rare occurrence. Police encourage citizens to research information to make sure it is legitimate.
