Montgomery County Considers Future Road Improvement Projects

Montgomery County is looking ahead to future road improvement projects in the county.

Public Works Director Brandon Beurskins says two of the projects up for consideration would continue two previous projects near Coffeyville and Independence.

Those projects would be slated for work in 2027 if they could be funded by a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation. The county had applied for grant money for the projects last year, but the application was denied by the state.

One/Another project up for consideration would be repairs made to County Road 2800, just north of Coffeyville. Commissioner Robert Bever says the section of that road between the Coffeyville Industrial Park and the CVR refinery gets a lot of wear and tear from big truck traffic.

Beurskins said that project might not be as likely to receive grant funding because it is not considered a major roadway by the state. However, he added that Public Works would conduct a traffic study in that area to provide statistics for the grant application.
