Two men in southwest Missouri are under arrest for their part in a theft of U.S. mail.
Authorities in McDonald County have arrested 25-year-old Kyle Winsauer and 25-year-old Isaac Hamilton for stealing from mailboxes. The theft was discovered when Winsauer was found after crashing a car into a tree on MO-90 near the City of Jane. McDonald County Sheriff's Deputies found the vehicle empty because Winsauer fled on foot after the accident, but the registration was traced back to him. After securing a search warrant, deputies then found stolen mail and checks inside the car.
Winsauer was taken into custody and told investigating officers that he had been stealing mail in order to buy Christmas presents and then taking the stolen money to a casino to make more. However, he kept losing. During the investigation, Winsauer told deputies that Hamilton had been with him at the time of the accident and that he had also stolen two pickup trucks from the Anchor Stone Quarry on Christmas day following the initial car accident.
Both Hamilton and Winsauer are being held in the McDonald County Jail and face charges of stealing U.S. mail.
