Washington County, OK, Notified of Security Breach

Commissioners in Washington County, OK, are notified by the Department of Homeland Security of a security breach on the county's computer system.

Washington County Sheriff Scott Owen says he learned of the breach on Saturday.

Washington County uses an independent contractor called Blue Team Alpha to handle cybersecurity. Commissioner Mitch Antle says the county Information technology director told the contractor to find the breach and resolve it.

Antle says it was a low-security level breach with hackers potentially accessing a county account that had limited access to the network. He says the contract with Blue Team Alpha immediately resolved the issue and no confidential information was shared.

Antle adds that the system is safe, but there was one back door that was exposed. He says the contract with the current cybersecurity firm will be updated to cover this potential risk in the future.
