Parsons City Commission Wraps Up Year With Discussion of Economic Development

The Parsons City Commission holds a special meeting to finish up end-of-the-year business.

Monday's meeting opened with a budget amendment hearing and ended with a discussion of the need for economic development in the Labette County city. Commissioner Tom Shaw says Parsons is lacking in entertainment venues.

City Manager Debbie Lamb told Shaw that the city had been in contact about the theater with an interested individual, but that talks were still in the preliminary stages. Shaw also says that the city's issue with entertainment isn't just limited to the theater.

Mayor Eric Strait and Commissioner Kevin Cruise agreed that this was an issue citizens were concerned about and, though no action was taken at this week's meeting, it should garner more attention from the commission in the coming year.
