Newton County, MO, Swears in New Sheriff

Newton County, MO, officially has a new sheriff.

Matt Stewart was sworn in on Friday as Sheriff of Newton County. Stewart was elected to the office after winning the Republican primary in August and running unopposed in the November general election. Stewart had previously spent 20 years at the Joplin Police Department and retired as Chief of Police in 2020.

In addition to swearing in the new sheriff, Judge Kevin Selby also administered the oath of office to all Newton County deputies for their next term.
