The U. S. Department of Justice is suing two eastern Oklahoma District Attorneys over tribal jurisdiction in Indian Country.
The lawsuits were filed Monday against Matthew Ballard, who serves at District Attorney in Craig, Mayes, and Rogers counties, and Carol Iski, who serves in a similar role for Okmulgee and McIntosh counties.
The lawsuit claims the two attorneys have been prosecuting tribal citizens for crimes committed in the jurisdiction of Indian Country reservations, which the DOJ says shouldn't be allowed.
The suit lists three cases prosecuted by Ballard and four by Iski.
