At this week's Montgomery County Commission meeting, a county citizen appeared before the commission to ask why a county administrator was needed.
The citizen was concerned about the cost of the position and asked if the workload at the county level had increased to the point that the cost was justified. Commissioner Robert Bever says the position was needed because the county is responsible for a lot of taxpayer money.
Bever noted that, due to Open Meeting Laws, commissioners are not allowed to speak to each other when not in an open session meeting. The Administrator, however, is allowed to speak to commissioners. Commissioner Mike Cordray says he has seen a lot of improvement in communication since hiring a county administrator.
Commissioners also added that an administration team is being assembled to improve efficiency and that the team may consist of up to five people who would answer to the county administrator.
