An Iola woman is lucky to be alive after being struck by a car while walking along US-54 in Allen County.

40-year-old Delana Capps was walking east along US-54 just west of Gas City around 9pm last night. She was approached from behind by a 2017 Chevy Equinox driven by 28-year-old Marlana Smith, also of Iola. The side mirror on the Equinox clipped Capps as the vehicle passed.

Capps survived the accident with only minor injuries and was treated at the Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola.
