New Road Construction Coming to Independence

The coming new year will bring another road construction project in Independence.

The city has plans to repair 10th Street from Main to Laurel in 2025. City Engineer John Garris says, since the repairs are a C-CLIP or City Connecting Link Improvement Program, the project will mostly be paid for by the state.

C-CLIP is a federal and state-funded program that provides funds to cities to address deficiencies or improve a City Connecting Link on the State Highway System. Garris says the city is also close to completing another ongoing project: new water meters.

The city says the new meters will decrease leaks and give customers better knowledge of their water usage. Crews have been working to install the meters since the summer.
