Kansas Transmission Corridor Continues Through Regulatory Process

The Grain Belt Express transmission corridor continues through the regulatory process in the state despite the recent announcement by the Department of Energy that the project has been canceled.

The Grain Belt Express project was one of ten National Interest Electric Transmission Corridor projects recently canceled by the U.S. Department of Energy. However, the Kansas Corporation Commission which regulates public utilities in the state, says the status as a previously approved project has not changed and it is still moving through the regulatory process. In addition, without a Federal Corridor designation, State jurisdiction and approval processes remain intact for the Grain Belt Express and the KCC will continue to review any potential future projects.

The DOE’s decision also does not reverse the previously announced $4.9 billion conditional loan guarantee awarded to the Grain Belt Express project on November 25.
