CPD Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Concludes

The investigation into the officer-involved shooting in late August in Coffeyville comes to a conclusion.

After a review by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Montgomery County Attorney’s office, it was determined that the actions of the officers were justified and consistent with department policy and state law. The investigation, which included dash camera footage, independent business video, witness statements and forensic evidence, confirmed that the officers acted in self-defense.

Officers were assisting the Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force with the execution of multiple search warrants. A traffic stop was performed in an attempt to execute one of the warrants. During the stop, the suspect struggled with Coffeyville police officers and attempted several times to gain control of an officer's firearm. That struggle ended with the suspect being fatally shot by an officer. These findings were independently reviewed and validated by the KBI.
