Family Credits Neighbor Dog With Saving Farmer's Life

A family in Sumner County is crediting a neighborhood dog with saving the life of an injured farmer.

Late last week, 84-year-old Ron Prochaska was removing the hay rack from the back of his tractor when his coveralls got caught in the PTO shaft. He was then pulled to the ground, injuring his arm and becoming stuck beneath the equipment.

A dog named Leo on a neighboring property heard Prochaska's cries and barked at his owner until the neighbor came outside their home. The dog then quieted so that the neighbor could also hear the farmer's faint cries for help. The neighbor then located Ron and helped free him from the machinery.

Prochaska's arm was so badly injured that medical personnel thought it might need to be amputated. However, that procedure was then found to be unneeded. Prochaska says he plans to get Leo and the neighbor some very nice Christmas presents as he continues to recover from his injuries.
