The State Board of Education votes to close Kansas' smallest school district.
The district - located in the western Kansas town of Healy, about 40 miles northeast of Garden City - had only two students enroll this year, down from 20 last year. The community voted in November to dissolve the district due to the low numbers. Now, with the 9 to 1 vote of the State Board of Education, students in Healy will attend classes sixteen miles away in Scott City. That district will also now receive any taxes that would previously had gone to the Healy district.
