The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office says it's once again the season for Post Office scams.
The scams often involve a text message from an unknown number indicating that the U.S. Postal Service requires a response regarding the delivery of a package. These texts are attempts by thieves to obtain personal information. Thieves may also pose as representatives from a government agency, bank, or other company to make their claims seem legitimate.
The U.S. Postal Inspector's Office and local Postal Officials remind residents that, while the Postal Service does offer free tools to help track packages, customers are required to register online or initiate a text message and provide a tracking number.
The USPS will NOT send customers text messages or emails without a customer first requesting their services with a tracking number. Legitimate texts and emails will also NOT contain links.
