The City of Altamont is set to receive a nearly $5 million loan from the U.S Department of Agriculture.
The loan is part of $79 million program announced by the USDA to expand access to safe drinking water in rural areas. The funding allocated for Altamont will help connect 57 consumers and improve 38 miles of transmission line for Twin Valley Electric Cooperative. The loan includes more than $275,000 in smart grid technologies to improve service in southeast Kansas.
The USDA loans include 43 total states with eight going to locations in Kansas.
