USD 503 Parsons schools receive approval for a grant to build a greenhouse for their growing horticulture program.
Students from the program made a presentation in November to the Grow Labette Committee about their desire to add a greenhouse to Parsons High School. The group agreed to provide funding for a 16 by 48 foot hoop greenhouse. The exact amount of the grant is currently unknown and acceptance of the funds will still require approval by the Parsons Board of Education and school administration. The horticulture program currently has a hydroponics lab that allows students to grow lettuce, Swiss chard and other leafy greens. A greenhouse will allow students to grow other fruits and vegetables they are unable to grow in the hydroponics lab due to their size or weight.
In other business, the board approved the hiring of a new PHS girls assistant wrestling coach, an evening custodian, and a Title One Aide. The board also approved the contracts for Superintendent Lori Perkins and Assistant Superintendent Jeff Pegues for the 2026-2027 school year as well as principal contracts for the 2025-2026 school year.
