Coffeyville Police are warning residents of a new scam circulating in the area.

 

The scam comes through the mail and appears to be a letter from Walmart. The letter then instructs the victim to deposit a bogus check included in the letter and use the money to purchase prepaid gift cards at Walmart for the sender of the letter. The victim is told they can keep the money left over for themselves. The letter then asks for pictures of the cards to be texted to another number. The scammer then redeems the cards and the original check bounces.
