Fire crews from Independence and Montgomery County respond to a fire at the dormitories at Independence Community College.

 

The fire occurred just before 11 p.m. last night. Crews arrived on the scene to find smoke and flames showing in the building. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire and extinguish the blaze. Additional aid was requested from the Dearing Fire Department, the Coffeyville Fire Department, and Cherryvale Fire and Rescue. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office also responded to help with traffic control. County Road 4000 was shut down until the fire was under control.

 

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
