The City of Altamont is considering an agreement to purchase energy from a Kansas solar farm.
At the most recent Altamont City Council meeting, Director of Member Services for the Kansas Municipal Energy Agency Tyson McGreer was on hand to discuss an opportunity for the city to purchase energy from a large-scale solar farm located in Pratt County. McGreer says the project would be beneficial to the city.
McGreer also spoke at a September Council meeting to pitch the project. The solar farm is run by NextEra Energy which is the company Altamont currently purchases power through. McGreer also told the council members that the company would like their answer on the agreement by the end of December. Some council members seemed open to the idea but Altamont City Attorney Robert Myers says he has some issues with the contract.
Council members took no action on the proposal, opting instead to table the issue until their December 12th meeting.
