A weekend traffic stop by a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper ends with an officer-involved shooting.
The incident occurred around 10:30pm Friday night on the south side of Topeka. A K-H-P Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a suspected impaired driver.
During field sobriety tests, the suspect fled on foot. The trooper gave chase which led to a a physical altercation between the two. The Trooper deployed a Taser, pepper spray, and eventually fired his weapon, striking the man.
The suspect was hospitalized in stable condition. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the shooting. The findings will be sent to the Shawnee County District Attorney for review
