The spirit of Thanksgiving was alive in southeast Kansas yesterday as many volunteers helped serve a free community Thanksgiving dinner.
The meal in Independence was hosted by Bobby Hise and VFW Post 1186. Through their efforts and the kindness and generosity of many volunteers, 647 meals were served at yesterday's dinner.
St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Coffeyville also hosted a community dinner yesterday. Volunteers at the church helped many members of the Coffeyville community by providing a delicious meal along with fellowship and friendship for the holiday.
