An animal cruelty case that has been working its way through the court system in Montgomery County draws to a conclusion.
That was the report to the Montgomery County Commission this week by County Administrator Jonathan Booe. The case dealt with nine dogs and several horses that were seized over the summer due to mistreatment. Because the animals were evidence in the case, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office was responsible for their care. Booe says the Sheriff's Office and the County Attorney's Office split the $18,000 initial price tag to care for the animals.
At this week's commission meeting, Booe reported that the case had reached a resolution. The final cost to the county would be another $13,000. Booe tells commissioner Robert Bever that, even though restitution was required in the case, it would cover only a portion of the final cost for caring for the animals.
The final cost for caring for the animals was nearly $32,000.
