More than 800,000 Kansans are expected to hit the roads this week for the Thanksgiving holiday just as the first cold blast of winter weather covers the state.
For those doing some holiday driving, it's important to make sure your vehicle is ready for the change in temperatures. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration suggests making sure all the lights on your vehicle are in working order, including, headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and emergency flashers. For those towing a trailer, check those brake lights and turn signals as well. Make sure your vehicle is full of de-icer wiper fluid and that wiper blades are in good shape.
Before you begin your trip, make sure you have weather-related items such as ice scrapers, jumper cables, and flash lights in your car. Also include a first-aid kit, extra warm clothes, cell charger, extra food, water, and needed medicine.
Plan your route and check weather conditions before departing on your trip. Avoid distracted driving and always buckle up to enjoy a safe holiday trip.
