A suspect is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Joplin.
The incident occurred just before 7pm on Sunday evening when Jasper County Deputies were called to a residence just north of Joplin. As deputies arrived, 60-year-old Michael Antwiler stepped out on his porch, carrying a shotgun. Antwiler then fired a shot at a deputy. The deputy then returned fire, striking Antwiler. Antwiler was then taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 8:30pm.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has been called in to investigate and the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
No other injuries were reported.
