Governor Kelly Announces New Enhanced Unemployment Insurance System

Kansans applying for unemployment benefits will now be able to do so more easily online due to the new online system for unemployment insurance benefits.

Governor Laura Kelly announced on Friday that the new system is now up and running. Kansans applying for unemployment benefits will see self-service options so they can file online and at their own pace. Employers will find enhanced reporting capabilities and an improved interface. The new system also features better security measures in an attempt to decrease fraud.

The State Department of Labor pushed to replace the old system that has been in use since the late 70s. The old system was plagued by slow processing times and technical glitches, while struggling to keep up when the number of claims increased. These problems often led to delays in benefits and frustration among those making claims.

Claimants must set up an account with the new system and can find FAQs, tutorial videos, and other resources at dol.ks.gov/unemployment/overview.
