Agents at K-State Research and Extension's Wildcat District are regrouping after a fire in downtown Altamont affected their office.

 

Last week, a fire destroyed a motorcycle shop and claimed the life of one person. The extension office located at 524 Huston Street shares a wall with the shop and sustained some damage. Livestock Production Agent Wendie Powell, who is based out of the Altamont office, says an engineer will be looking at the building to determine the extent of the damage. Powell says for now, they're moving operations to the Methodist Church.

 

Powell says the phone number for the office will not be changing, but it will take a few days to get their phones hooked up in the new space.

 

In the meantime, Powell says to call the Independence office for questions at 620-331-2690.
