The wife of a newly elected Sedgwick County Commissioner lands in a bit of legal trouble following the recent election.
The Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday that a charge of electioneering had been filed against Meghan Blubaugh. Blubaugh is the wife of Jeff Blubaugh who was recently elected to the Sedgwick County Commission.
The District Attorney's Office states that Meghan Blubaugh unlawfully and knowingly attempted to persuade or influence eligible voters at a polling place on October 29.
Electioneering is a Class A misdemeanor that bans that kind of influence within 250 feet of a polling place. The law also forbids wearing, exhibiting or distributing labels, signs, posters, stickers or other materials that clearly identify a candidate in the election.
Blubaugh's first court appearance is set for December 17.
