The City of Independence will begin neighborhood leaf pick up on Monday.
The city has been divided into 15 different zones and city crews will be picking up leaves between Monday and late February. Pickup is contingent on weather conditions and the condition of city equipment.
Residents are reminded that leaves should be placed by the curb but not in the street as the loose leaves can pose hazards for vehicles and pedestrians. Leaf piles should also be placed within 5 feet of the curb, otherwise the vacuum will not be able to reach them. Avoid leaving anything but leaves in the piles. Debris such as brush, rocks, and weeds may damage equipment. If pick up crews notice debris, they will not pick up the leaves.
Bagged leaves and bulky pick up can be scheduled by calling 620-332-2507.
