A late afternoon crash near Ottawa in Franklin County leaves one person dead and two others seriously injured.

The accident occurred around 4pm yesterday when a Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 83-year-old Milda Caleb of Ottawa was traveling eastbound on K-68 about 4 miles west of the City of Ottawa. Caleb attempted to make a left turn on to Indiana Road, but failed to yield to oncoming traffic. Her vehicle was struck by a westbound Hyundai Accent driven by 38-year-old Thomas Harmon of Pomona. Harmon was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and died as a result of his injuries. Caleb was taken to KU Medical Center with serious injuries while a passenger in her vehicle, 53-year-old Lester Caleb, also of Ottawa, was taken to Advent Health.
