Representatives from a Colorado-based energy company make a proposal to Montgomery County for a facility located near Liberty.
Business Development Director for S-M-T Energy of Boulder, Colorado, Chris Poole appeared via Zoom call at yesterday's Montgomery County Commission meeting. Poole was on hand to discuss the specifics of a proposed Battery Energy Storage System or BESS Facility. Poole says the storage cell would help supply additional energy to the power grid through Evergy.
Poole told commissioners that the proposed battery cells are lithium iron batteries that would sit on concrete pads on 5 acres near Liberty. Poole says this is not the only facility in the works in Montgomery County.
The company had also approached the city of Independence with a similar proposal but decided against the project due to zoning issues.
