Leadership at South Coffeyville Public Schools is addressing recent low test scores on state report cards.
At last night's meeting, Elementary Principal Karla Bauer filled the board in on the state report cards that have been released, which grade each school in the state. Bauer says neither school is where they want them to be, and explains that some missing data appears to be skewing the results.
Bauer and Business Manager Jade Dolan say they have found out if a student transfers to Kansas, the state can count that as a drop-out unless special steps are taken because they fall off the Oklahoma records. Bauer says scores at the elementary side are showing some improvement, with lower chronic absenteeism and higher attendance than the statewide average. The scores come from the ACT Test on the high school side and standardized reading, math and science tests at the elementary school.
