A Wichita man is dead after being hit by his own car while he was allegedly trying to steal a furnace filter.

 

 The incident occurred around 10:15am yesterday in the parking lot of the Westlake Ace Hardware store at the corner of Douglas and Hillside in Wichita.

 

Wichita Police say the 69-year-old man exited his van in order to get the filter, but left the vehicle in drive. The van then lurched forward and pinned the man against a fence. Employees at the hardware store called 9-1-1, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

His name has not yet been released.
